All native French teachers - total immersion sessions

Academic staff

Although technology is essential to what we do, it is the teachers behind the technology that set us apart from other online programs. Every one of our virtual classes has a real teacher - an eProfessor - who uses the technology to enhance traditional classroom features.

All our eProfs are native French speakers and are certified by the Ministère de l'éducation nationale (the French Ministry of Education).

Christine - Principal
eLycée is the first school of its kind. In 2005, with the support of renowned French scientist, science educator, and public servant Goéry Delacôte, we started researching new technology for online language learning. We developed our first program of courses in direct response to demand from the French community in the USA. Since then, our classes have brought together French speakers from around the world. Journalist, educator and manager, Christine has taught and administered educational programs for over 20 years. She created and ran two cultural non-profit organizations in France, and was a journalist for France-Amérique and Le Figaro, New York and San Francisco.

Nadia - Director of Studies
I am thrilled to be part of such an extraordinary school. We are driving the uptake of French language and culture at all levels, breaking new ground with our technology and academic courses. We work with teachers, artists and technology specialists to create a unique - and uniquely successful - program of couurses and workshops for French speakers. Together, we are creating a new type of school, offering new ways to teach and new ways to learn in a dynamic, online world. Nadia has been teaching French in Europe and in the USA for 22 years. She has also trained French teachers at the Institut Universitaire de Formation des Maîtres in France, and in the United States. Since 2000, Nadia has been developing courses for bilingualism and biculturalism. Prior to joining eLycée, Nadia spent 7 years teaching French Language and studying bilingualism and biculturalism in New York City.

Alain - Head Teacher
Parlez-vous eLycée? I’m addicted! I can’t imagine going back to traditional education. In the virtual classroom, students are always active; no need for discipline - the activity is all in French - it's busy and creative and par for the course! I use all kinds of multimedia material to build programs to suit each individual class and its students. Classes are relevant, dynamic and very popular. It makes for a great learning environment for all of us. After 24 years teaching in France and in the USA, Alain became eLycée's first eProf. With two years of experience in the virtual classroom, Alain is now leading eLycée's teacher training program, as well as teaching his own classes.

Paul - Academic Project Director
Our eProfs are guides rather than lecturers. They assign complex and engaging tasks to groups of students and help them identify the necessary resources to do them well. The students explore and organize information, engage in activities, and accomplish collective tasks designed to lead them to success. In additon to aquiring and mastering the subject matter, this approach develops more general skills in analytic, synthetic and complex problem solving. Paul is a celebrated author. He is president of Oulipo, a collective of avant-garde writers and intellectuals whose works focus on the problems and puzzles of language.

Corinne - eProf
eLycée's virtual classroom encourages communication: after just a few minutes, it's like being in a real classroom... with clear advantages that you won't find in many schools. Students talk easily and contribute to the class using 'shared' applications. My students are motivated and proactive; they love working with our multimedia resources and they build confidence in pairs and in groups. And it's fun. That's so important. It's the perfect enviroment for language learning. Corinne lives in Atlanta. She has taught High School French in France and in the UK. She is studying for a PhD in French Literature this year and will be teaching our B2 and C1 classes.

elycée is a great new development for French teaching, and a great new challenge for French teachers! We combine advanced new technology and proven teaching methods to help students improve their language skills, and we make it fun and compelling with multimedia tools and resources. It is a creative, productive, exciting experience for all of us! I'm very proud to be part of the team. Elsa has a Masters degree to teach French as Foreign Language and she was Director of the Centre de Ressources pour l'Enseignement du Français at Yale University. She will be teaching our AP French Language students.

Sophie - eProf
As soon as I heard about eLycée, I was hooked. elycée's virtual classroom is a wonderful place to learn, share and create. Students speak and write spontaneously, and classes are always dynamic, fun and challenging. It is the most natural and easy way to learn French if you can't actually study in France. As for the future... this is how a new generation of language learners are going to study, practice and perfect their skills. Sophie has taught French Literature in France and has been teaching at Princeton University and Rutgers University (NJ) since she came to the US. She will be teaching AP French Literature for us.
